For just $7, you can sponsor an oyster in Maui Nui Marine Resource Councilʻs oyster project in Māʻalaea Bay — and (hereʻs the best part) that oyster will filter sediment and pollutants out of 40 to 60 gallons of ocean water EVERY DAY throughout its lifetime.

The filtering that your adopted oyster will do will benefit the coral reefs in Māʻalaea Bay, which need clear, clean ocean water to feed and reproduce. Clear, clean water is also important to all in our community who enjoy surfing, paddling, swimming, boating and fishing in Māʻalaea Bay.

Your donation will support Maui Nui Marine Resource Councilʻs work to improve ocean water quality in Māʻalaea Bay through our use of caged oysters and our work in the adjoining Pohekea watershed to prevent wildfires that lead to sediment runoff into the ocean. Youʻll also help us pay for new security equipment to keep our oyster cages safe.

We have some special thank you gifts to recognize your symbolic oyster adoption:

  • Emailed certificate announcing your participation in our “Adopt an Oyster program” – when you adopt one or more oysters
  • Our 3″ x 3″ “Adopt an Oyster – Help Save Māʻalaea Bay” holographic sticker — with your adoption of four or more oysters.
  • Beautiful handmade oyster shell ornament with a sea turtle illustration. (Sea turtles do best in clean ocean water, too!). With your adoption of 15 or more oysters.
  • A special photo opportunity for up to 7 of your members of your business, civic groups or ‘ohana to pose with an oyster cage with your adopted oysters. With your adoption of 50 or more oysters.

Your donation will be U.S. tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
