From limu picking to reef cleanups, we host volunteer events throughout the year where community members can roll up their sleeves and make a direct impact. These hands-on events are a great way to connect with the `āina, learn about local marine ecosystems, and meet fellow ocean stewards.

Water Quality Monitoring — Hui O Ka Wai Ola
Our Hui O Ka Wai Ola Water Quality Testing Program currently tests water on a regular basis at 31 sites in South and West Maui. We are currently in need of volunteers to help with this program.
Volunteers participate in a training program to learn the careful procedures and protocols that we follow to ensure quality data collection. After completing training, volunteers work in teams of about 3 people each. You’ll travel to designated shoreline locations in South Maui to gather ocean water samples (at around knee depth), conduct in-field water testing and prepare samples for storage and transportation to a lab. Our field water testing generally takes place on weekday mornings.
To volunteer in the field or in the lab, you must actively have health insurance.
