Water Quality Testing — our Clean Ocean Team
Our Hui O Ka Wai Ola Water Quality Testing Program currently tests water on a regular basis at 29 sites in South and West Maui. We are currently in need of volunteers to help with this program.
Volunteers participate in a training program to learn the careful procedures and protocol that we follow to ensure quality data collection. After completing training, volunteers work in teams of about 3 people each. You’ll travel to designated shoreline locations in South Maui to gather ocean water samples (at around knee depth), conduct in-field water testing and prepare samples for storage and transportation to a lab. Our field water testing generally takes place on weekday mornings.
To volunteer in the field or in the lab, you must actively have health insurance.
Assist at Events
Enjoy meeting and talking with people? Please volunteer to help staff our information tables at community events.
Lend a hand to organize the refreshment table at our monthly meetings (held on the first Wednesday of every month, from 5 to 7 pm, at Pacific Whale Foundation’s Discovery Center in Ma’alaea).
Photograph & Videography
To tell our story, we need photos! If you are a photographer, please volunteer to document projects, programs, meetings and events. We are also seeking assistance from videographers who have the needed Akaku Community TV qualifications to film our monthly meetings for broadcast.
Blogging
Love to write? We’d love your help with creating blogs for our website. We’ll provide the topics and editing assistance.
