Maui ‘Ground Zero’ in Coral Reef Studies – June 22, 2016 MAUINOW.COM

Several Maui non-profits are participating in the International Coral Reef Symposium taking place this week at the Honolulu Convention Center on Oʻahu.

With one of the most extensive coral reefs communities in Hawaiʻi, Maui County has been an especially important ground-zero for coral reefs studies and community-led action.

Lessons learned from Maui’s community-based reef management, watershed partnerships, long-term reef monitoring studies, and citizen science programs are being shared throughout the conference.
