Take action for Maui’s beautiful coral reefs and beaches
We all want clean ocean water at our favorite Maui beaches.
That’s why Maui Nui Marine Resource Council’s ocean water quality monitoring program is so important. This volunteer-based program regularly tests water quality at 48 beach and shoreline locations on Maui, monitoring for sediment, pollutants like nitrogen and phosphorous, keeping track of ocean temperatures and more. This program collects and tests water samples every two to three weeks, year-round.
The data we collect is provided to the Hawaii Department of Health and shared publicly online at HuiOKaWaiOla.com. With data, we can tackle the causes of water pollution by working with upslope landowners, construction sites and local government. With data, we can make a difference.
While our program is volunteer-based, each site requires an expenditure of $3,800 to cover testing materials and shipping of water samples to a testing lab.
Please support this work by adopting one of our ocean water quality testing sites — at a beach that you love, at a beach that’s important to your business or community, or a beach that’s cherished by your family.
Your $3,800 adoption donation will support a full year of water quality testing at your favorite Maui beach.
We invite businesses, community organizations and civic groups to adopt one of our water quality testing sites through our Adopt a Beach program. We also encourage individuals to join together to adopt a site. Let’s work together to support clean ocean water!
